  • "Final Fantasy VII Remake" had a new box art debut over the last week.
  • According to the sticker on the box, it looks like the game will be a timed exclusive.
  • After one year, "Final Fantasy VII Remake" can go to other platforms.
  • Square Enix has yet to weigh in on this revelation.

"Final Fantasy 7 Remake" is right around the corner, and more updates are being dropped as the days pass. Now, fans are treated to a tidbit that wasn't unveiled in the past – it may very well be a timed exclusive on the PlayStation 4.

The game, which is being released on March 3, 2020, just saw the debut of its updated box art. It's exactly like the original PlayStation imagery that debuted back in the late '90s, except everything looks decidedly better. Cloud stares off defiantly into the distance, staring at a mako reactor in Midgar.

But the new box art also reveals a sticker that notifies buyers that the game isn't a PlayStation 4 exclusive per se, but a timed one. That means the game will likely show up on additional platforms a year after its initial debut. It will be an exclusive until March 3, 2021, at which point it will likely head to Xbox One or even PC at that time.

Given that the title is meant to be stretched out across several episodes, it's unclear what timed exclusivity actually means for the additional releases that will comprise the main story. Where will all the games end up in the future? It's not entirely clear at this point.

But what is clear is that the developers are working hard to create the remake that "Final Fantasy" fans deserve. The game has been looking particularly fantastic over the last few months, especially since it's been in development for at least the past four years since it debuted during Sony's 2015 E3 press conference.

It looks like Square Enix and company will have to make an official announcement going forward to let fans in on what the plan is going forward in terms of exclusivity.
