Tarek El Moussa, one of the stars of hit HGTV show "Flip or Flip," filed for divorce from his wife Christina, People reported late Monday night. Tarek's lawyer released a statement to the magazine saying he had officially filed paperwork to legally separate from Christina. The couple announced a split about a month ago.

And while reports have indicated Christina has begun a relationship with contractor Gary Anderson, sources told People there was no infidelity in the marriage. Previous reports had suggested the split came after "inappropriate" texts between Christina and Anderson.

Christina and Tarek have said they plan to keep working together. Together they have a net worth of some $3 million and reportedly make about $10,000 per episode of the hit show. That's on top of the earnings made by each flip. There will be new episodes of the show this year because of contractual obligations but it's likely it could end after that, reported E!, citing an "insider."

The couple previously announced in December they intended to split after a May incident involving a gun in which the police were called to their home.

"Like many couples, we have had challenges in our marriage," the couple said in a statement. "We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution. There was no violence and no charges were filed."

After reports stated police were alerted to a "possibly suicidal male with a gun," Tarek said he simply went on a hike with a weapon in an area with numerous predators. The pair, who married in 2009, indicated they were committed to keeping their two children in mind as they split.

"During this process, we are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be," they said in a statement. "We will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together."

The couple has previously come under fire for seminars they have held about real estate. Some students complained that program was misleading and didn't reveal so-called secrets to success as advertised. They also complained that the stars themselves didn't show up for expensive courses. Christina defended the seminars in October in an interview with ABC News.

"I stand by our product," she said, while noting the couple sometimes did attend the seminars. "It's our tools, it's our system. It's what Tarek and I do. I've only heard very minimal complaints."
