Colorado -- Millions of people living in Colorado are set to receive stimulus checks this summer as part of the government’s response to rising inflation.

Gov. Jared Polis on Monday signed the Colorado Cash Back Bill, which will issue tax rebates to most taxpayers in the state this summer. Under the bill, every Colorado individual who files taxes by June 30 or by their approved extension date would be eligible to receive an estimated $500 in rebate checks. Couples filing their taxes jointly before the deadline will receive $1,000 payments.

"We are providing immediate relief for hardworking Coloradans by sending rebate checks back quickly because there's no reason the government should hold onto your hard-earned money any longer than it has to," Polis said.

"We are helping Coloradans deal with inflation by getting people back their hard-earned money this summer - at least $500 for individuals and $1000 for joint filers - to help pay for everyday items and support themselves and their families."

When the bill was initially announced, the refunds were estimated to amount to $400 for individual taxpayers and $800 for couples.

The tax rebate payments are expected to come in the mail by Sept. 30. About 3.1 million Colorado residents will receive the rebate checks.

The tax rebate comes as Americans grapple with rising costs of goods and gas. Neither the Biden administration nor lawmakers in Congress have indicated plans to send out a fourth round of stimulus checks. In response, several states across the country have created legislation that would send out more payments to their residents.

In California, car owners whose vehicles are registered in the state would receive one-time payments of $400 in gas rebates. Each individual may only receive up to two payments even if they have more than two vehicles registered in California. The gas rebates would be sent in the form of debit cards.

In Georgia, residents who filed their 2020 and 2021 taxes may be eligible to receive between $250 and $500 in rebate payments. The amount received could be lower for recipients who owe money to the state in the form of taxes or delinquent child support.

In Indiana, residents who filed their 2020 taxes before January 2020 will receive stimulus checks worth $125 for individual taxpayers and $250 for married couples filing jointly.
