The “Jason Bourne” franchise has seen different films made with or without its main man, Jason Bourne (Matt Damon). The franchise producer, Frank Marshall, revealed that the search is on for a new filmmaker willing to add another film into the media franchise.

According to Collider, Marshall is not just looking to add another film — he is open to “remake” the entire series with a new creative team in place. The producer has worked in all five movies in the blockbuster franchise. He explained that it’s his “love” for the series that prompted him to look for fresh new ideas coming from a director that hasn’t been tied to the series before.

The series didn’t have one director throughout its entire run, though. Doug Liman helmed “The Bourne Identity” before Paul Greengrass stepped in for “The Bourne Supremacy,” “The Bourne Ultimatum” and “Jason Bourne.” The cast of directors is rounded off by Tony Gilroy, who directed the film in which Jason Bourne himself did not appear, “The Bourne Legacy.”

According to Critical Hit, the last two films weren’t big hits like the first three were. In “The Bourne Legacy,” Jeremy Renner appeared in place of Matt Damon, and fans wanted to see Matt Damon again. This led to the 2016 film “Jason Bourne” and, while it marked the return of Matt Damon to the series, it did not see the return of blockbuster profits at the box office.

According to reports, Matt Damon is open to return and star again in the film franchise, provided that it also meant Paul Greengrass would direct the film. It remains to be seen how this would happen, since Marshall does have some exciting new ideas for the series. That being said, it might just start with a fresh face behind the camera.

With Jeremy Renner having been tied to the series previously, a new series could also mean that there's a chance for his character to come back. It remains to be seen whether a plot would include Renner and Damon meeting in the franchise for the first time, or whether Damon would agree to return, even with a director other than Greengrass directing the film.
