Gloria Darden, mother of Freddie Gray, reportedly attempted to commit suicide Wednesday night, Baltimore TV station WJZ reported, citing multiple sources. Darden suffered superficial wounds from the attempt, but no stitches or surgery were needed, according to reports.

Her 25-year-old son died in April of a spinal cord injury, while in police custody, one week after being arrested. His case led to violent protests in Baltimore and the arrests and indictments of six police officers in connection with Gray's death. Their cases are pending.

Darden was undergoing psychiatric evaluation Thursday evening.

Just last month, Baltimore agreed to pay Gray’s family $6.4 million to settle civil litigation. Billy Murphy, a lawyer for Gray's family, said the settlement represented “civil justice,” while police union President Gene Ryan called the agreement “obscene,” USA Today reported.
