Jon Snow
Jon Snow has had some memorable quotes throughout the first six seasons of “Game of Thrones.” HBO

The writing is one of the best parts of “Game of Thrones,” so the HBO drama is filled with good quotes. One of the characters with the best lines is Jon Snow. The King of the North knows how to deliver both witty one-liners and passionate speeches. Fans are sure to hear some more great dialogue from Kit Harington’s character when “Game of Thrones” Season 7 premieres Sunday. Until then, let’s look back at the times when Jon Snow delivered some of his best quotes.

When he revealed his brooding outlook: “Sometimes there is no happy choice, only one less grievous than the others.”

When he acknowledged his brooding: “You were occasionally awful. I’m sure I can’t have been great fun, always sulking in the corner while the rest of you played.”

When he took his vows: “Hear my words, and bear witness to my vow: night gathers and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realm of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night’s Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.”

When he was sassy: Jon Snow: “Have you ever been beyond the Wall, sir?”

Janos Slynt: “I commanded the City Watch of King’s Landing, boy.”

Jon Snow: “And now you’re here. Must not have been very good at your job.”

When he was romantic: “I do know some things, I know I love you. I know you love me.”

When he tried (and failed) to describe love: “It’s... There’s this person, this whole other person. And you’re wrapped up in them, and they’re wrapped up in you. And you... For a little... for a little while, you’re more than just you. You’re... Well, I don’t know! I’m not a bleeding poet.”

When he convinced the “free folk” to join his army: “I’m not asking you to forget your dead. I’ll never forget mine. I lost 50 brothers the night that Mance attacked the Wall. But I’m asking you to think about your children now. They’ll never have children of their own if we don’t band together. The Long Night is coming and the dead come with it. No clan can stop them. The Free Folk can’t stop them, the Night’s Watch can’t stop them and all the southern kings can’t stop them! Only together. All of us.”

When he teased his sister Arya: “First lesson: stick ‘em with the pointy end.”

When he tried to reason with Ramsay Bolton: “Thousands of men don’t need to die. Only one of us. Let’s end this the old way. You, against me.”

With “Game of Thrones” Season 7 starting, there will certainly be more memorable quotes coming. However, there might be a few less than usual. “Game of Thrones” Season 7 will be the shortest season yet, clocking in at just seven episodes. The season will be over before September.

“Game of Thrones” Season 7 premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. EDT on HBO.
