Sunday’s new episode of “Game of Thrones” will feature several intriguing developments, including the reappearance of a familiar figure and the debut of a new character.

The new promo for “Game of Thrones,” Season 4, episode 6, titled “The Laws of Gods and Men,” reveals that Tycho Nestoris, a representative of the Iron Bank of Braavos, will make his first appearance on the show. In the clip, Tycho, portrayed by actor Mark Gatiss, meets with Stannis Baratheon, who appears to be leveraging his claim as the rightful King of Westeros into receiving a loan from the Braavosi.

Readers of the “A Song of Fire and Ice” novels will recognize Tycho, but viewers of “Game of Thrones” may be a bit confused about the role of the Iron Bank. The banker’s appearance is just the latest sign that the Iron Bank will play a crucial role in determining who will ultimately control the Seven Kingdoms.

During episode 5, titled “First of His Name,” Tywin Lannister revealed that the Iron Throne was hopelessly in debt to Tycho and his compatriots, with no immediate way of paying back the money it owed to the institution.

“The crown owes the Iron Bank of Braavos a tremendous amount of money,” Tywin said. “That’s what the Iron Bank is, a temple. We all live in its shadow, and almost none of us know it. You can’t run from them. You can’t cheat them. You can’t sway them with excuses. If you owe them money, and you don’t want to crumble yourself, you pay it back.”

If the Iron Bank believes that Stannis would be better equipped to pay back Westeros’ debt than the Lannisters, the foreign institution could lend its considerable power to the upstart king’s efforts to regain the throne. With the bank’s backing, Stannis may yet stand a chance of defeating young King Tommen and his allies.

“The Laws of Gods and Men” promo also reveals that the Ironborn may not be willing to abandon their long-lost prince, Theon Greyjoy, to imprisonment after all. Theon is currently a captive of Ramsey Snow, the bastard son of Roose Bolton. Ramsey has stripped Theon of his willingness to resist (as well as a few other things) and remade him as “Reek,” his dutiful, meek and utterly harmless servant.

But this week’s episode preview reveals that Yara Greyjoy, Theon’s sister and heir to the Iron Islands, hasn’t forgotten her little brother. In the clip, Yara, who declares that she’s “here for Theon Greyjoy,” and a group of her Ironborn raiders prepare to battle shirtless Ramsey and his bodyguards.

In addition, Season 4, episode 6 will feature the long-awaited murder trial of Tyrion Lannister, who will answer for his alleged role in the assassination of the late King Joffrey. The Lannisters will also debate what to do about Daenerys Targaryen, who conquered Meereen and rules as its queen.
