Resurfaced clips of “Girl Meets World” are causing an uproar on Twitter with many calling the show “problematic” due to how Disney handled discussing sensitive topics.

The series, which ran from 2014 to 2017, touched on a variety of topics, including autism and religion. However, viewers looking back at the series with a 2021 perspective are criticizing the way the network chose to portray the topics.

In one of the resurfaced clips, a character named Farkle Minkus, who was played by Corey Fogelmanis, informed his friends that he may be autistic with Asperger syndrome.

As a result, the group began denying he had the disorder and attempted to convince him nothing was wrong. Some fans felt Disney was trying to portray autism in a negative light.

In a different clip, Farkle was seen telling his friends that he struggled to believe in God because he couldn’t see him. However, Cory Matthews, played by Ben Savage, claimed God could still exist even if you can’t see him.

The folks on Twitter believed Disney was attempting to push Christianity on children watching the program.

“I just saw 30 different ‘Girl Meets World’ clips and each is worse than the next,” one person wrote.

One person admitted they were worried about how the show may have affected the people who used to watch it. “And the fact that ‘Girl Meets World’ was one of Disney’s most-watched shows at the time is very upsetting to me I fear....the damage that show has caused,” the individual wrote.

Another resurfaced clip also touched on communism and featured a scene in a classroom in which the children fed into stereotypes. Some people felt the scene was a way for Disney to introduce kids to capitalism.

“Girl Meets World” was a spinoff of “Boy Meets World,” which ran from 1993-2000. The spinoff starred Rowan Blanchard, Sabrina Carpenter, Ben Savage, Danielle Fishel, August Maturo, and Peyton Meyer.
