UPDATE: Mothra and Rodan will team up in "Godzilla: King of the Monsters." The latest trailer of the film shows the two monsters flying next to each other, something that can be confirmed when the video is paused at 1:48.

This isn't the first time Mothra and Rodan are teaming up to defeat a bigger enemy. According to a report by Screen Rant, this happened in the 1964 flick "Ghidorah: The Three-Headed Monster." The two titans aren't always on friendly terms, but they may join forces with Godzilla in order to defeat their common enemy this time.

Original story:

The new “Godzilla: King of Monsters” trailer is here! The video teases the presence of many more monsters out there, and the ones that are featured in the film are just “tip of the iceberg.” After fighting the MUTOS in the first film, the stakes are higher as some of the biggest names in the franchise are back in the sequel.

King Ghidorah, Rodan and Mothra are familiar names in the franchise and can all be seen in the trailer [see below]. What’s a little different is the human response. The film clearly divides the monsters into two categories. One group is here to protect humanity, while the others are out to destroy it. The plan is to make Godzilla feel like human beings are its pets, so it will fight to save lives.

The monster tracking organization Monarch is back. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the organization will push the monsters to fight each other in the film. The moral question the film is expected to focus on is whether humanity deserves to be saved at a time when nature is out to balance things with these monsters.

The monsters are all humongous in size. In a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, cast member Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Madison Russell, said that the monsters are so big that she had some neck problems because they were constantly looking up while filming.

While the major focus of the film will be about the monster battle, there is also a human story to follow. According to Screen Rant, the plot will also focus on Dr. Emma Russell (Vera Farmiga) and her daughter, Madison. The two characters have been kidnapped by a mysterious organization that believes the monsters are the rightful rulers of earth.

Monarch’s Dr. Ishiro (Ken Watanabe), who is featured in the trailer, will help Emma’s husband rescue the kidnapped mother and daughter. Dr. Vivienne Graham (Sally Hawkins) will also join in the rescue attempt in “Godzilla: King of Monsters.”

The upcoming film will also set up the eventual fight between Godzilla and King Kong. The film “Godzilla vs. Kong” is set to be released in 2020.

“Godzilla: King of Monsters” will be released on May 31, 2019 in the US. The film is directed by Michael Dougherty, who is known for directing movies like “Trick ‘r Treat” and “Krampus.” The script of the film was written by Dougherty and Zach Shields.
