Ben McKenzie, who plays Jim Gordon, will direct an upcoming episode of “Gotham” Season 3. Fox

Ben McKenzie is taking a break from acting to take over the director’s chair. The “Gotham” star, who plays Jim Gordon in the series, revealed during a guest appearance on the “Late Show With Seth Meyers” that he will be directing an upcoming episode of the Fox series.

“It was a little bit odd,” he said, according to Times of India. “What was interesting was sort of how much I didn't know that I knew until I actually got there.”

“It was like, ‘Oh, I know the answer to that question’, because I've sat here for three years from a different perspective. Everybody has to say ‘yes’ to you. It was really really fun, I really enjoyed it. We have an amazing cast, so being able to work with them in that way was really fun,” he added.

Incidentally, McKenzie got to call the shots on fiancée Morena Baccarin, who plays Gordon’s love interest, Dr. Leslie “Lee” Thompkins. The two decided to take their relationship to the next level after welcoming their first daughter, Francez Laiz Setta Schenkkan, in March last year.

A source dished on their engagement, telling Us Weekly on Tuesday, “They are very happily engaged.” As such, Baccarin showed off her engagement diamond ring at the 2016 Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York City on Monday, according to E! News.

While the couple did not say anything about their engagement, they did gush about their 8-month-old daughter, who is nicknamed Frankie. “She's about to crawl. We're dreading that,” McKenzie jokingly said. “But she's great, and it's wonderful to have family around and celebrate the holidays together.”

This will be McKenzie’s first marriage and Baccarin’s second. The actress was previously married to Austin Chick, but they parted ways in 2015. They have a 3-year-old son together named Julius Chick.

“Gotham” Season 3 airs every Monday at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
