Grammy Awards 2019 is just around the corner. Nominations will be announced this Friday, and they will all compete to take home trophies in 84 categories. The one category that everyone will be eagerly watching will be the Album of the Year, which is the grand prize.

The announcement of the Grammys 2019 nominations will begin on Friday, Dec. 7 at 8:30 a.m. EST. Shawn Mendes, Alessia Cara, Janelle Monáe and Zane Lowe will be making the announcement, Vox reported. Some of the nominees will be revealed on "CBS This Morning" and on Apple Music at 8:45 a.m. EST, while the complete list will be unveiled via press release and Grammy.com.

The categories include Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best New Artist, and Song of the Year. Album of the Year recognizes all the tracks of a particular album and all other aspects of the production. Record of the Year goes to the artist of a single song in an album. Song of the Year is given to the songwriter, while the Best New Artist category recognizes the new talent joining the industry.

There was some controversy with the Grammy Awards last year, as it was seen as being dominated by men. This took a turn from bad to worse after Recording Academy President and CEO Neil Portnow responded to the controversy by saying that women have to “step up.”

This year, for the first time, there will be a diversity and inclusion taskforce that will ensure that the same controversy will not haunt the awards ceremony, Los Angeles Times reported. This new taskforce was created by the Recording Academy.

Tina Tchen heads the taskforce of 18 members. Tchen has reportedly confirmed that the team is not going to enforce some quota system when it comes to winners. Their job is to make sure there is diversity in the process. Tchen knows that this will be a challenging task and said that there is no easy answer for what they are trying to do.

Some of the female artists to watch in the Grammy Awards 2019 are Cardi B, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Courtney Barnett and Janelle Monáe. Many other artists have also delivered some noteworthy albums in the past few months. It remains to be seen who will be recognized for their work.

Grammy Awards 2019 will be held at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019. It will be televised and broadcasted on CBS at 8 p.m. EST, CBS News reported. Fans can also watch it live on CBSN, CBS All Access and fuboTV.
