  • Sony recently announced that the popular title "GTA 5" is coming on the PS5
  • Many "GTA 6" fans were disappointed that the much-awaited title was not announced at the PS5 event
  • A new report claims that "GTA 6" is still a few years away and the earliest release window that it could arrive is in 2022 or 2023

“Grand Theft Auto” fans were a little disappointed at the PlayStation 5 digital event. Instead of announcing the much-awaited “GTA 6,” Rockstar Games and Sony launched “GTA 5” for the next generation gaming console. It seems that fans of the next installment to the successful “GTA” franchise will be more disappointed if the prediction of a reputable game expert is to be believed.

In a recent Triple Click Podcast, former Kotaku journalist Jason Schreier shared that the heavily rumored “GTA 6” might arrive in 2022. According to the gaming expert, the sixth installment to the “GTA” series would not be available for years.

Schreier said that “I will say that I know a lot of people out there, especially a lot of avid GTA fans, probably skewing younger have been upset because I said that GTA 6 was in kinda early development and won’t be out for a few years.” Considering that Rockstar Games just announced that “GTA 5” is coming to PS5, fans should not expect to see “GTA 6” soon, he noted.

Considering that “GTA 5” is coming on Sony’s next-generation gaming console, there is a chance that “GTA 6” might be announced in 2021. If this happens, the nearest release date of the much-awaited title could be in 2022. “Because GTA 6 is a ways away. Like, I wouldn’t expect that game until maybe the end of 2022, 2023. I think [that’s more realistic] for a game like that.”

Rumors about “GTA 6” have been rife online since 2018, but Rockstar Games maintained its silence. Meanwhile, “GTA 5” is scheduled to arrive in PS5 in 2021. The game was first released in 2013 on gaming consoles and was later released on PC.

“GTA 5” is the second best-selling title of all time. Epic games recently offered the popular title for free. While Schreier has shared accurate predictions in the past, he previously said that Sony might not yet reveal the full PS5 hardware at its first digital event.
