Gwyneth Paltrow tested positive for COVID-19 "early on," and her bout with the virus left her with some long-lasting symptoms.

Paltrow opened up about her COVID-19 diagnosis in a post she penned for her Goop website. She also shared what she did to improve her health, including fasting and taking supplements.

"A little background: I had COVID-19 early on, and it left me with some long-tail fatigue and brain fog," she wrote. "In January, I had some tests done that showed really high levels of inflammation in my body."

"So I turned to one of the smartest experts I know in this space, the functional medicine practitioner Dr. Will Cole," she explained. "After he saw all my labs, he explained that this was a case where the road to healing was going to be longer than usual."

Paltrow said she has since been following a flexible keto and plant-based diet, fasts until 11 a.m. daily and has become accustomed to "cleanses." She has also been spending a lot of time in the kitchen cooking her own meals.

"So I’ve been cooking a lot, and some of it is really delicious: I made scallops with crispy capers and sage the other day, asparagus with bacon vinaigrette, and some little artichokes with stuffed herbs and garlic," she continued.

Paltrow shared that she found great sugar-free kimchi and sugar-free kombucha and has been using a lot of "coconut aminos" in her recipes. The Goop founder is hoping that it helps her form lasting habits.

The actress also shared that "Will’s also got me on supplements, most of them in service of a healthier gut."

"There’s butyrate, which Will says supports a healthy microbiome, and then in my daily Madame Ovary supplement, I get fish oil, B vitamins, some vitamin D3 (I add more, but there’s 500 IU in there to start), selenium, and zinc, all of which Will says are critical for me right now," she explained.

Paltrow avoids sugar and alcohol and has been doing major research in finding support for her new healthy habits, too. The "Iron Man" star said that what she has been doing has worked for her.

"Everything I’m doing feels good, like a gift to my body. I have energy, I’m working out in the mornings, and I’m doing an infrared sauna as often as I can, all in service of healing," Paltrow added.

She also noticed an improvement in her skin, which made her happy. Paltrow wanted to double down on her skin care and make 2021 "the year of never needing makeup."
