The actor playing Harry Potter has been fired from the Broadway production of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" following a complaint by a co-star about his conduct.

The "Cursed Child" producers said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly that James Snyder was fired from the production following the conclusion of an investigation into a complaint regarding his conduct from castmate Diane Davis. The exact nature of his conduct was not specified.

Davis plays the role of Harry's wife Ginny.

According to producers, they received the complaint from Davis on Nov. 19, 2021, and immediately commissioned an independent investigation by a third party into the allegations against Snyder.

Snyder was then suspended pending the investigation's completion, producers said.

"At the conclusion of the investigation, the producers decided Mr. Snyder should not return to the production and terminated his contract," their statement said. "Ms. Davis has made the personal decision to take a leave of absence. Out of respect for her privacy – and to maintain the integrity of the investigation – we will make no further comment regarding the matter."

Snyder's rep has not responded to requests for comment, the publication noted.

"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," which is based on an original story by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and collaborators Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, debuted in London in 2016 and opened on Broadway two years later. It won six Tony Awards and set a record for the highest all-time weekly ticket sales of any play.

The play picks up 19 years after the events of the final "Harry Potter" novel, 2007's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," and follows the children of Harry, Ginny, Ron, Hermione and Draco Malfoy as they take on their own adventures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Both Snyder and Davies joined the cast in 2019, replacing original stars Jamie Parker and Poppy Miller, respectively.

The play re-opened on Broadway on Nov. 16, 2021, just three days before Davies filed the complaint.

"We are committed to fostering a safe and inclusive workplace, which is why we have robust workplace policies and procedures in place for all those involved in 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,'" the producers' statement concluded. "This includes strict prohibitions against harassment in any form, as well as channels through which any employee can report conduct that they believe is inappropriate. We will continue to do all we can to ensure the extremely talented team that brings this production to life feels safe, empowered, and fully supported."

It is not clear how long Davis' leave of absence will be.

Snyder has appeared in other Broadway productions, including "Cry-Baby," "If/Then," and "In Transit." He also appeared in episodes of "The Good Wife," "Rizzoli & Isles," "Blue Bloods," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," and "Drop Dead Diva," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
