Meghan Markle recently gave sex workers a reason to smile when the duchess and her husband, Prince Harry, visited a charity this week.

On Friday, Markle and Prince Harry helped out charity One25, which provides assistance to female sex workers and those battling addiction and other life-controlling issues. The two royals helped in making up food packages that were later distributed to the sex workers on the streets. However, Markle wanted to add a little something special for each package.

Markle apparently decided to take charge of "banana messaging" and wrote simple but encouraging notes on the fruit that were given out. Among her messages were empowering statements like "you are brave," "you are special" and "you are strong."

After finishing up the packages with the other volunteers, Markle and Prince Harry sat inside One25's outreach van, which travels around Bristol's red light district five nights a week to give out food, condoms, warm clothing and other assistance to women on the streets. During the outreach, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex met a former prostitute named Sam, who informed the couple that she had started working as a prostitute at a very young age and had become addicted to drugs.

The 43-year-old former sex worker, who has "been away from the street and drugs" for nearly 13 years now, told Daily Mail that she finds their gesture of coming to the streets and reaching out to people like her "heartwarming." She's also glad that Markle and her husband made the women feel that they have not been forgotten by society.

"If you had told me when I was that girl that I would be meeting with the Royal Family, and they would be interested in what I had to say … that would have been alien," she said.

Sam added that Markle's small gesture of giving out encouraging "banana messages" would be appreciated by those who received them. She believes it's "little things like that" that gives them hope.

"I can imagine being on the van, and [someone saying] 'Meghan wrote this,'" she continued. "I think they might not eat it. I think that banana would be at home until it is rotten, because I would do the same."

After their visit to One25, Markle and Prince Harry's busy day ended with a stop at Empire Fighting Chance in Easton, according to The Bristol Post. The charity supports children through boxing.

For their tour of Bristol, Markle chose to wear a colorful silk chiffon Oscar de la Renta midi-dress, which had various flora and fauna printed on it, including a unicorn. She paired the dress with a black wool coat from William Vintage and Sarah Flint "Marina" suede olive knee-high boots, according to MeghanMaven.com.
