Prince Charles’ reaction to Princess Diana’s death remains an interesting topic to royal fans.

When one netizen asked on Quora how the Prince of Wales reacted to his ex-wife’s death, many claimed that Prince Charles was heartbroken and that he cried after learning about Princess Diana’s untimely demise.

According to Sallie Smythe, a royalist and monarchist, Prince Charles was “terrified” and he immediately called Camilla Parker Bowles who was also allegedly “terrified.” The two feared for their safety and their reputation as they knew that the public would hate them.

However, she believed that Prince Charles was hugely affected by Princess Diana’s “shocking” and “totally unexpected” death. She also felt that the Prince of Wales was genuinely and deeply saddened.

Hninzi Lwin, former pediatrician at Greater Baltimore Medical Center 1, said that Prince Charles cried out in anguish. He also reportedly requested that the TV be removed from his sleeping sons’ room, so they won’t learn about the news before he had spoken to them.

Meanwhile, Joyce Andrews didn’t believe that the Prince of Wales really mourned for the mother of his children. According to her, Princess Diana’s death paved the way for Prince Charles and Camilla to rekindle their romance.

“Any pragmatist would see that Prince Charles AND Camilla did not worry or mourn Diana’s death, in fact, it paved the way for him to marry again. —Being the future king, as long as his divorced spouse was alive, he was not allowed to remarry. Now he certainly could!” she wrote.

According to Ingrid Seward in her book “The Queen & Di,” the royals were sound asleep when they were awoken by one of their aides and informed about the accident. Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II were up and were waiting for updates.

Initially, they were informed that Princess Diana survived. When they were told that she didn’t make it, Prince Charles reportedly broke into tears and Queen Elizabeth II just watched him.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles do not share a close bond as a mother and son. During that difficult time, they didn’t comfort each other.

According to Penny Junor in her book “The Duchess: The Untold Story,” the Prince of Wales and Her Majesty were feet away from each other and were in separate rooms divided by paper-thin walls. None of them went to the other person for comfort.
