Prince William and Kate Middleton may live a privileged life, but the Duchess of Cambridge reportedly prefers to practice a frugal lifestyle when she isn’t in the royal spotlight.

Reports of Kate’s cautious spending habits date back to 2010 when she and Prince William lived on the Isle of Anglesey. The couple resided on the island while William worked as a search and rescue helicopter pilot.

At the time, the Daily Mail published an article revealing the couple kept a low profile, but Kate was often spotted around town, cashing in on local sales and bargains.

One shopkeeper told the publication Kate would buy her own groceries. “She liked a bit of salmon fillet or cod loin. She always asked what was fresh that day, and always about the price. got the impression that she was quite careful with her money,” the owner said.

Royal biographer Michael Thornton also revealed the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s charm helped them gain favor with locals.

“The people here are not terribly royalist-minded and were ambivalent, at best about their arrival, but she and William won Anglesey over with their warmth and low-key lifestyle – and trust me, the people of Anglesey are not easily swayed.”

Prince William and Kate eventually moved from the island to Kensington Palace and are now parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

In 2017, Kate attended an event for a documentary project called “Out of the Blue” where she reflected on the challenges of motherhood.

“Nothing can really prepare you for you the sheer overwhelming experience of what it means to become a mother. It is full of complex emotions of joy, exhaustion, love and worry, all mixed together,” she told the audience stated.

Nowadays, Kate and Prince William are focused on raising George, Charlotte and Louis, who are the third, fourth and fifth in line to the throne, respectively.
