Meghan Markle has proved once again that she is sweet, kind and as down to earth as they come. The Duchess of Sussex edited the September issue of British Vogue and decided to surprise cover star Laverne Cox with a phone call.

Cox told People she "did not find out until last week" that Markle was co-editing the issue.

“[British Vogue editor-in-chief] Edward Enninful called me at 9:30 in the morning," she said. "And he’s like, ‘I have someone on the phone for you,’ and it was the Duchess of Sussex.”

“She was so lovely,” the 47-year-old continued. “She just thanked me for being an inspiration and to keep it up.”

Cox was also able to share some inspiring words with the Duchess, who she revealed she had been following for several years.

“I did tell her I had been a fan of Suits since the beginning — I had been a fan of hers since then. I just loved her on the show. She just said, ‘Awww.’ She seemed surprised.”

Cox is a well known trans rights activist, and her presence on the cover of British Vogue is history-making because she is the first transgender person ever to have the privilege of doing so. In fact, it was Markle who decided that Cox grace the cover instead of herself.

Acknowledging the moment, the "Orange Is The New Black" star shared a photo (above) to Instagram with the caption, "I'm here to highlight the profound humanity that transgender people of all kinds possess."

The September Issue of British Vogue hits newsstands on Friday, August 2.
