In July 2015, fans were shocked when Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton announced their divorce. Meanwhile, the “Wildcard” artist was struggling to deal with her new reality and decided to head to a new town.

However, the 36-year-old was unaware that her move would bring her a new sense of happiness during such a heartbreaking time in her life. On Friday, Lambert opened up about her difficult journey following her split with “The Voice” judge.

According to Billboard, before the singer performed her emotional ballad, “Dark Bars,” at her Nashville concert, she reflected on moving to the city after ending her marriage.

“I feel like Nashville is somewhere where you can go if you need to be a dreamer and not be judged about it,” Lambert told the crowd.

“I spent a lot of time here on highs and lows … I went through a really hard time in my life,” she said, referencing her divorce.

Lambert praised the country mecca for helping her get through a dark time in her life. “I moved here in 2015 in the middle of a s–t show, but I was lifted up by people who were like, ‘We got you, girl.’ My friends and my songwriters and my fans and everybody here,” the “House That Built Me” singer shared.

Following Lambert’s divorce, she carried on several relationships before announcing her marriage to Brendan McLoughlin in February 2019. While the singer is grateful for the hospitality she received from Nashville, last year, she told People that her husband helped her gain a newfound appreciation for NYC.

“I love the city. My heart is in Texas and Tennessee, but my husband has opened my eyes to a whole new world,” she told the publication.

Lambert claimed McLoughlin’s connection to the Big Apple has allowed her to become more acquainted with the city.

“I’ve been to New York so many times, but I’ve only worked. I’ve never just gotten to like hang out and wander the city and really take in what that is, good and bad. There’s these crazy awesome rock bars and graffiti, I really enjoy it,” she explained.

Meanwhile, Shelton began dating Gwen Stefani at the end of 2015, after meeting the No Doubt artist while she appeared as a judge on “The Voice.”
