How Much Money Do 'The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars' Winners Get?
When Tuesday's finale of MTV’s “The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars” airs at 10 p.m. EST, six players will be competing for first place. Johnny Bananas, Emily Schromm and a player of their choosing with represent the Champs’ team against Josh Murray, Michelle Waterson and another member of the Stars’ team.
Unlike a typical season of “The Challenge,” the contestants aren’t competing for any prize money for themselves. This season has featured veterans of the show and celebrities trying to win money for charity.
The exact amount of money that goes to the winning team is unknown. According to MTV, the teams are competing for “their share of $150,000 to donate to their beloved charities.”
Several players have already banked some money for their charities. The two teams competed in a game each episode, and the winning teams declared one member their MVP. The MVP was awarded $5,000 for their charity. The Champs won every team challenge.
The teams had to name one LVP (Least Valuable Player) for each challenge. The LVPs competed in one-on-one elimination challenges, with the loser being sent home. Those who were sent home were given an unspecified donation to their charities.
If experience is going to play any kind of a role, the Champs might have a significant advantage. Bananas holds the record with six first-place finishes since “The Challenge” began, winning well north of a half-million dollars on the show. Chris “CT” Tamburello, who could join Bananas and Emily in the finals, is fourth all-time with more than a quarter-million dollars in total prize money.
Even though the Stars haven’t had much team success this season, Murray and Waterson have performed well. Murray, who was a contestant on “The Bachelorette,” has probably been the team’s best overall performer. Waterson, a UFC fighter, won the last elimination challenge.
The most recent season of “The Challenge” saw the winners walk away with the biggest prize money in the show’s history. Jordan Wiseley and Camila Nakagawa came in first place, each winning $450,000 before taxes.
“The Challenge: Vendettas” premiered on Jan. 2 with 30 players competing to win a final prize that has the potential to exceed $500,000.
