Democratic nominee Joe Biden leads Republican President Donald Trump in the swing states of Pennsylvania and New Hampshire, according to two polls released Thursday.

A Muhlenberg College/Morning Call survey shows Biden leading Trump by 4 points in Pennsylvania, 49% to 45%. Pennsylvania has 20 votes in the electoral college and is considered crucial for both parties.

Trump narrowly won Pennsylvania in the 2016 election against Hillary Clinton. Biden spent the first 10 years of his life in the industrial city of Scranton and is hoping his rust belt ties will help Democrats win back the state. According to poll aggregator Real Clear Politics, the last 17 polls show Biden leading Trump in Pennsylvania.

A new poll from St. Anselm College shows Biden leading by 8 points in New Hampshire, 51% to 43%. In 2016, Clinton earned a tight victory over Trump in New Hampshire, 47.62% to 47.25 — the smallest margin of victory for a Democrat in the state since Woodrow Wilson narrowly won it in 1916. New Hampshire, which has a Republican governor, voted for Barack Obama by a convincing margin in 2008 and 2012.

Another poll also surveyed the state of the race in another important battleground, Minnesota.

A Trafalgar Group poll shows both candidates at 47% support in Minnesota. The state is receiving more attention in 2020 after Clinton edged Trump in 2016, 46.44%-44.92%.

Polling data site FiveThirtyEight gave Trafalgar a C-minus grade. In late July, a Fox News poll showed Biden leading Trump, 51% to 38%.

The last time a Democratic presidential nominee lost Minnesota was in 1972.

Recent general election polls show Biden with a strong lead over Trump. An Economist/YouGov poll released Wednesday showed Biden at 50% and Trump at 40%.
