She is the one who has gotten a lot of criticism in the press for several actions, including the amount of taxpayer money that went into renovating her home and the fact that her son’s Christening will actually be a private event. However, one royal commentator is sticking up for Meghan Markle and has revealed that her husband, Prince Harry, may be the one to actually blame for all of her troubles.

Markle has been under even more fire than ever in recent days, as news not only broke that she and Prince Harry accepted £2.4 million of taxpayer money to renovate Frogmore Cottage, but that the couple would be christening their son, Archie Harrison, in a private venue. However, according to Ingrid Seward, the move about the Christening is likely something that was completely spear-headed by Harry himself, even though his wife is getting the negative attention for it.

“I think this is quite Harry-led and it is putting Meghan in a very difficult position. She’s the one getting all the flak as a newcomer to the Royal Family,” she told Daily Mail. “I assume Harry and Meghan don’t know where they are going wrong and think the criticism is all so very unfair. But why wouldn’t they want the world to see their baby? I don’t think it is any skin off their nose.”

The criticism has mainly focused on the couple trying to have it “both ways,” according to most commentators, by taking public money for things but insisting on keeping other aspects of their lives private, with royal author Penny Junor stating that they need to either do things the way it’s expected, or basically eschew public life altogether.

“They can’t have it both ways. Either they are totally private, pay for their own house and disappear out of view or play the game the way it is played,” she said, according to Express UK. “Seeing Archie and his godparents arriving at the christening is what people are interested in.”

The outcry comes following the reports of the taxpayer money that was spent on the couple’s home in Windsor, which was defended as being used for necessary improvements after the property had already been earmarked to receive renovations in the first place.

Among the items that taxpayer money reportedly paid for were replacing defective wooden ceiling beams and floor joists, updating heating systems, rewiring the electrical and installing new gas and water lines. However, it’s reported that any furnishings in the home were financed solely from the Duke and Duchess’s private accounts.
