Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently split from Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Royal Foundation, and the reason behind the decision may have just been revealed.

Royal expert Duncan Larcombe told The Sun that the split may have been due to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s burning desire for independence. Initially, Prince Harry involved Markle with the Royal Foundation, and it seemed as though they were willing to slot in under Prince William’s wing. But one year later, things changed.

“It does seem odd. Why separate when you are both backing the same causes? Whether this is a sign of a rift, this is certainly a sign of division,” he said.

Larcombe went on to say that Prince Harry is looking to assert himself from his brother. And in order for him to do so, he is going to forge his path with Markle. Before meeting his wife, Prince Harry was like a “royal gooseberry” standing behind the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

“He is now a full-time working royal with his wife, he wants autonomy as to what he does, how he does it and how she does it, which is a definite change to how it was 12 months ago,” he said.

Earlier this week, a royal insider told The Sunday Times that Prince William was quite controlling but he lost some of his control ever since Markle came into the picture. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no longer going to be controlled by Prince William since they will already start doing things their way and there is scope for them to do just that.

The royal insider also said that the initial plan was for the royal siblings to work together that’s why the Royal Foundation was set up. However, since things weren’t set in stone, there had obviously been a major rethink in recent months.

Other sources claimed that the split has to do with Prince William and Prince Harry’s alleged feud.
