A huge Python was spotted in a train compartment after a passenger "felt something tickling his leg." The incident took place on board a train from Chennai to Bangalore in India on Sunday.

The eight-foot-long python caused panic among passengers as the snake made its way through the train. The reptile was first noticed when it slithered onto a passenger’s leg and he screamed out loud.

"Many people wanted to stop the train and get off. Nobody knew what to do. There was chaos," a passenger said.

The railway police were informed. Officers immediately rushed to the spot along with snake rescuers. After the train reached Bangalore station at 10.30 p.m. local time (1 p.m. EDT), Sunday, the rescuers boarded the train and found the snake in a luggage compartment under the seat. The reptile weighed almost 80 kg (176 pounds).

The railway police reported, “We had only heard of snakes being brought on trains, but now we have seen a case with our own eyes. The python must have escaped from the bag in which it was being carried in the second-class non-ac compartment. No arrests were made, but investigations are underway.”

The officers suspect the possibility of transportation of more than one reptile hinting toward an endangered wildlife smuggling racket through railway stations in the city. Forest conservation officials suspect a case of poaching as the non-venomous snakes are a very popular choice for people at rave parties for clicking photos. The snake was considered endangered and listed under forest conservation rules.
