Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed are moving on from their birth control controversy.

On Saturday, the couple attended the 2017 Environmental Media Association event, People reported. The "Twilight" alum wore a full-length, long-sleeve, green and floral gown, while the "Vampire Diaries" alum sported a traditional black and white suit, leaving his shirt slightly unbuttoned at the top.

Reed was heard telling everyone that it was her and Somerhalder's date night. "When you have a baby you're supposed to take advantage of date night," she said. Her husband agreed, "We're on a date! We have an 8-week-old."

Somerhalder and Reed's appearance at the event happened just hours after they issued an apology over their birth control issue on Twitter. In a joint statement, the couple shared their thoughts about reproductive coercion.

"To anyone who has been affected by reproductive coercion, we are deeply sorry. That is an extremely serious issue and women's rights is something that is incredibly important to both of us. It is something we're been very vocal about, and something that is very close to our heart," Reed and Somerhalder wrote.

However, the couple noted that they should not be the representative of the said issue because they can't relate to it. "However, if this somehow sheds light on a topic that definitely needs mainstream attention, then we are grateful for the unintended consequence," the couple added. "It's a shame that outlets chose this as their way into a very serious discussion, as we are certainly not qualified to be the faces of this topic. We are two happily married couple who chose TOGETHER to have a baby."

In another tweet, Reed blamed bad journalism for the controversy. According to the star, if one only listens to the podcast, one would understand that she was not forced by her husband to have a baby despite their admission that Somerhalder threw out her birth control pills. The "Thirteen" star felt that the writer made the false report to stir up drama without her approval.

In the podcast interview, Reed admitted that her husband threw out her birth control pills. Somerhalder explained that they had already agreed to have a baby, but his wife did not expect that he would throw her pills away. The "TVD" alum even joked that he has a six-minute recording video of the actress panicking as he flushed the pills down the toilet.
