Prince George turned 7 years old on Wednesday, and his parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, made sure to give their eldest son a wonderful birthday celebration despite the ongoing pandemic.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge threw Prince George a small outdoor party to celebrate his birthday on July 22. The young royal also received a yurt as a gift from his parents, a source told Us Weekly.

His younger siblings, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2, joined the festivities and surprised their big brother with a new bicycle. They also “helped Kate bake a chocolate sponge cake for George and decorated it with sprinkles, lollipops and colorful candy,” the source revealed.

Prince William is reportedly planning to build furniture for the yurt with George as he wants to keep the children busy over the holidays.

Prince George’s camping-themed birthday party was attended by his grandparents, Michael Middleton and Carole Middleton. "George adores his grandparents and wanted them to be there," the insider said of Kate Middleton's parents.

The intimate bash was held in the gardens of Anmer Hall in Norfolk, where the family has been staying since the COVID-19 pandemic began. A family friend told Vanity Fair that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge love being in Norfolk and would love to live there full time if they could.

Meanwhile, Prince George "loves being outdoors," and his perfect day "is going to the beach, sailing his toy boat playing in the sand and having a good game of hide and seek in the dunes. They are out all day every day."

Middleton had earlier talked about the challenges of keeping her kids inside during the lockdown and the stress of homeschooling their two eldest children at their Sandringham country estate.

Talking about her children’s stamina, Middleton said in an interview with BBC in April that it’s amazing how much one can do in a day.

"So, you pitch a tent, take the tent down again, cook, bake," she said. "You get to the end of the day — they have had a lovely time — but it is amazing how much you can cram into one day, that's for sure."

Prince George and Princess Charlotte attended Thomas's Battersea before their school was closed down due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Duchess of Cambridge also revealed that it was hard trying to explain quarantine to her children.

"It’s hard to explain to a 5- and nearly 6- or 7-year-old what’s going on," she told ITV’s "This Morning" in May. "It’s really hard. We hadn’t done a huge amount of FaceTime and face calls and things like that [before the pandemic], but obviously we’re doing that a lot more now."
