Kensington Palace —home to the Royal members of the family including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Prince William and Kate Middleton— underwent a makeover to commemorate the 200th birthday of the late Queen Victoria.

Victoria: A Royal Childhood, an exhibition that opened within palace, showcased rooms which recreated the childhood of Prince William’s great grandmother. The renovation was not as easy as it sounds like because Historic Royal Palace creators reportedly did a tremendous amount of research to accomplish an authentic restoration of the rooms, Hello Magazine reported.

The Brintons Archive Collection was reportedly used to help complete the room transformation. Custom-made carpets were chosen from the Gregorian period that laid all throughout the exhibit.

This exposition is just one of the few exhibits done in Kensington Palace. A few years back, the palace opened its doors to the public to showcase several exhibits, including the dresses worn by Kate Middleton’s mother-in-law, the late Princess Diana.

It wasn’t just the interior part of the Kensington Palace which underwent a revamp. The gardens reportedly obscured the palace so it had to undergo a renovation too. The most important part of the palace make-over was Queen Victoria’s marble statue restoration. The renovation cost was around £12 Million.

There are certain parts of the Kensington Palace that are off-limits to the public. Among which is Apartment 1A, where Prince William and Kate Middleton stay.

It isn’t just a typical apartment —no. Prince William and Kate Middleton’s home is a spacious, 4-floor building, with 20 room residences, big enough to accommodate the couple’s entire family.

The security in Prince William and Kate Middleton’s home is strict; hence, only very limited access is granted. An opportunity presented itself when the public saw a glimpse of Apartment 1A’s drawing room when former President Barrack Obama, and his wife, Michelle, came to visit the Cambridges, Showbiz Cheat Sheet reported.

Based on the description of the room, one could say that it achieved the balance of royalty and comfort because it had a formal look yet it was cozy at the same time. It had traditional furnishings under the shades of cream with touches of white and gold. The design of the place reflected Prince William and Kate Middleton’s exquisite taste.

Previous reports revealed that Prince William and Kate Middleton share a bedroom, breaking away from the tradition of having lavish separate bedrooms. Prince George reportedly had two rooms, for sleeping and playing. There were two living rooms, a whole floor for the royal staff and a gym.
