KEY POINTS

  • Apple typically launches its flagship iPhone series in September
  • The iPhone SE 2022 was launched in March 2022
  • Apple has not yet said anything about the release date of iPhone SE 2023

Aside from the annual launch of the flagship iPhone series, another highly anticipated launch from Apple is that of its more affordable iPhone SE installment. While the Cupertino-based tech giant has not yet said anything about the next iPhone SE iteration, the internet has its own set of leaks and rumors pointing at the features, specs and look of the supposed iPhone SE 4 or iPhone SE 2023.

There have been a lot of talk online claiming that the upcoming iPhone SE model would be based on the iPhone XR. Interestingly, industry insider Jon Prosser, last week, seemingly confirmed these claims.

In Prosser's FrontPageTech YouTube channel, he noted that the fourth-generation iPhone SE would share the design of the iPhone XR from 2018. The insider, however, is still unsure of the specifications and internals of the device.

Citing an anonymous source, Prosser's information was used by Apple concept graphic designer and Twitter user who goes by the name Ian Zelbo to showcase the 3D render of the supposed upcoming Apple iPhone. Several sites and insiders, including the Chinese site MyDrivers, already reported that iPhone SE 4 would have an iPhone‌ XR-like design, a claim which is now corroborated by other reliable industry insiders.

As for its release date, the general prediction is sometime in the Spring of 2023. Earlier this year, Display Supply Chain Consultants' Ross Young forecasted a 2023 release for the larger version of the iPhone SE, the iPhone SE Plus. TF International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted the same when he said the new iPhone SE could come out in 2023.

Since Apple usually introduced its flagship iPhone series in September, or the Fall, and the iPhone Se in March or April, it would likely follow the same pattern next year. So, consumers will most likely see a new iPhone Se model in March or April of next year.

In Young's forecast earlier this year, he said that the next iPhone SE model could have a 5.7-inch or 6.1-inch screen. Later Prosser claimed that since the iPhone SE 4 would adopt the design of the 2018 iPhone XR, it would retain the 6.1-inch display.

It is worth noting that these industry insiders have, in the past, shared reliable information about Apple and its products ahead of the official announcement from the company. However, since these are not official, consumers should temper their expectations and take these claims as highly speculative at this rate.
