Rahul Kohli as Ravi

Although Rahul Kohli currently stars as Ravi on The CW’s “iZombie,” the actor said that he landed the guest-starring role of Jack Spheer on “Supergirl,” also on The CW, by auditioning for the role.

“This was a complete surprise,” Kohli told Collider of how his appearance on “Supergirl” came about. “It wasn’t even based on the back of ‘iZombie.’ I went up for this role, along with other actors in Los Angeles. … So, I learned my scene and went in and read, like everyone else, and then it happened. I don’t think there was any cross-over or planning of that. It just all happened. It was more, ‘The guy we want happens to be on the same network, and he’s free.’”

In an interview with TV Insider, Kohli explained that he was able to audition for the role because filming for Season 3 of “iZombie” had already wrapped when “Supergirl” started looking for an actor to play Jack Spheer.

“[I was free to play Jack Spheer] because ‘Supergirl’ is on a 22-episode arc and ‘iZombie’ [only] does 13. We’d already wrapped ‘iZombie’ [at the time],” the British actor said. “I was back in Los Angeles on hiatus, shooting a movie for Netflix when I got a call from my agent who said they’re looking for actors to guest on a ‘Supergirl’ episode, a one-episode arc. I went in and read for it, just like any other job, really. Booked it and went back to Vancouver [to film].”

Although Kohli’s “Supergirl” stint was only for one episode, the actor had a fun experience playing a character that is different from “iZombie’s” Ravi.

“[Ravi and Jack] are actually still quite good people, and both charming in their own way,” he told Comic Book Resources. “[But] I think the biggest difference between the two is Jack’s not funny. I don’t think I had a single joke, whereas Ravi is much more of this comedic ball of energy on ‘iZombie,’ so it was interesting … because that’s what I do on ‘iZombie.’ If I get nervous or if don’t know what to do in a scene, I resort to a stupid face. That seems to have worked the last three years, but with ‘Supergirl,’ I have to do something different to feel comfortable.”

“Supergirl” Season 2 airs every Monday at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW, while “iZombie” Season 3 airs every Tuesday at 9 p.m.
