The ratings for David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad” may have been dismal but the film was a commercial success, grossing $325 million in North America and $745 million worldwide. Although a sequel has yet to be confirmed, it’s hard to think Warner Bros. wouldn’t make a followup to 2016’s eighth-highest-grossing film.

If a sequel is announced, actor Jai Courtney, who played Captain Boomerang, would love to come back. Speaking with We Got This Covered, Courtney said he had no idea if a sequel was in the works but he hopes one is.

“Listen, they keep their cards very close to their chest. I actually have no idea, I pray the answer is yes,” said Courtney. “I certainly don’t feel like I’m done with that character. I had a lot of fun playing him, and I don’t feel like anyone is done with that franchise, certainly not yet. So, I hope so, sooner or later. The studio is very busy at the moment, director David Ayer is directing something else at the moment, but I’m sure they have plans, just none that they’ve shared with me.”

Courtney has been vocal about a sequel in the past, telling MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast in September that “Ayer did an incredible job, and I sure as hell hope we get to make another one with him.”

Warner Bros. has its plate filled with other films such as “Wonder Woman,” “Justice League” and “The Batman,” but the studio has hinted at a “Suicide Squad” sequel before. In a March article from The Wrap, the website reported that Ayer “hopes to fit [the movie ‘Bright’] into his fall schedule before Warner Bros. brings him and [Will Smith] back for a planned ‘Suicide Squad’ sequel in 2017.”

Ayer hasn’t said much about a sequel, but during an interview with MTV in April, the director said he would be up for “lobbying” to get “Suicide Squad 2” an R rating.
