Jane the Virgin
Justin Baldoni and Gina Rodriguez play co-parents Rafael Solano and Jane Gloriana Villanueva in “Jane the Virgin.” The CW

Jane Gloriana Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) and Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni) might not know it yet, but Jane’s hot and exciting cousin, Catalina (Sofia Pernas), is trouble with a capital T.

Jane’s grandmother, Alba (Ivonne Col), already warned her that Catalina is up to no good, but being the good-hearted protagonist that she is, Jane will most likely give Catalina the benefit of the doubt. The good news is that Catalina will only have four episodes to stir up trouble, according to Romper, so whatever damage she’ll cause with the main characters would most likely be minimal.

Whether it's Jane or Rafael who would be more affected by her departure still remains to be seen. Jane was charmed by her cousin when she first arrived, although the rest of her family members seemed reserved. As for Rafael, he fell head over heels in love with her, and they already spent a romantic evening together, with Jane’s approval.

Bustle even suspected that Catalina used Jane to get to Rafael. But for what purpose?

Earlier, showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman told Indie Wire that it was time for Rafael to have a new romantic interest. Before Jane got married, they let Rafael hold a torch for her, but now that she’s no longer single, it’s time for him to have “new, full and interesting relationships.”

“It… let me have more fun with Rafael because I was kind of sick of seeing him moon. He’s a great-looking guy and he’s going to have ladies in his life, and he really did love Jane but I thought it was an important character step for him to watch Jane get married and to have that affect him too,” she said. “Because who would he be if he’s just constantly skulking around the background?”

“Jane the Virgin” Season 3 airs every Monday at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
