Jane the Virgin
Jane (Gina Rodriguez) and Adam (Tyler Posey) will rekindle past feelings and memories in “Jane the Virgin” Season 4. The CW

Jane Gloriana Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) is facing a whirlwind of emotions now that her feelings for Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni) have resurfaced and her first love, Adam Alvaro (Tyler Posey) has returned.

Everybody has his or her own opinion as to who Jane should end up with, but as far as Posey is concerned, Jane should be with Adam.

“Jane just went through a really, really heavy time,” Posey told Vanity Fair. “Her husband died, and Adam and Jane have history with each other, and you know, Adam’s a sweetheart. And he has everyone’s best interests in mind, and all he wants to do is kinda have fun and I think Jane kind of needs that in her life. She needs somebody to rely on and just kind of get out of the dark place that she’s in. So I think Adam’s a very necessary character to kind of help Jane move on in a sense.”

However, Posey acknowledged that Jane and Adam will face challenges in their relationship just like every other couple. For one thing, they will have to deal with Rafael’s prejudice against Adam.

“Raf is obviously very, you know, hesitant about me meeting Mateo. Adam’s a very loose, open, fun-loving person and Raf’s a little by-the-numbers. So whenever they interact it can be really really funny,” teased Posey.

Meanwhile, show creator Jennie Snyder Urman told The Hollywood Reporter that Jane will still be influenced by her late husband, Michael Cordero (Brett Dier) when it comes to her romantic pursuits. “He'll always be informing so many of her decisions. He’ll be present with new loves and with old loves in terms of what she’s feeling and how it compares to Michael,” Urman explained.

She also told Variety that the show will Michael into the storyline by having “moments of flashback.” “He’s the most central piece to Jane’s heart still. Her book is coming out this year, which is all about her relationship with Michael, so certainly he’s going to be evoked then, and going into a little bit of the aftermath after he died, things that you haven’t seen, we’ll be flashing back to that,” she continued.

“Jane the Virgin” Season 4 airs every Friday on The CW at 9 p.m. EDT.
