Jill and Derick Dillard have announced they will not return to Central America for their missionary work. TLC

The Dillard family is staying stateside. On Wednesday, “Counting On” stars Jill and Derick Dillard revealed they will stay home in Arkansas after two years of their on-again, off-again mission trip in Central America.

“Through a number of circumstances, and guided by much prayer and counsel, we are discerning the Lord leading our family’s full-time ministry back to the United States for the time being,” the family announced on their blog.

Along with their post, Jill and Derick shared a photo of themselves smiling alongside their children Israel, 2, and Samuel, 1 month.

“Thank you so much for your support of Dillard Family Ministries through your prayers and financial resources. It has been a joy and blessing to see how our Lord has worked in Central America, and your generous giving has been a huge part of making that possible!” the brood added.

“Through numerous efforts of community development, skills training, sports outreach, and local church ministry, a strong foundation has been laid that I believe the Lord will continue to grow for many years to come.”

Jill did not address the big announcement on Instagram Wednesday, instead opting to share a photo of her newborn son. “Look who’s one month old now!” she wrote alongside a new shot of the baby boy.

While the Dillard family did not reveal their exact reasoning for not continuing their overseas mission trip, there are several factors that could have come into play. Just over one month ago, the pair announced the arrival of Samuel Scott. The baby boy was delivered via C-section after Jill labored for nearly two days.

“We are so in love with baby Sam! Thank you for all of your prayers and for sharing our excitement in welcoming our second son,” they wrote days after their son’s arrival. “We are so happy to be together as a family of four!”

Earlier this month, Jill and Derick updated fans with pictures of their growing brood. In one of the captions, they shared Samuel was a “happy, healthy, cuddly little boy.”

The dangers of living and working in Central America could have also very well played into their reasoning for staying stateside. In May, prior to returning to the U.S. for Samuel’s birth, the couple revealed that one of their friends had been murdered.

“Even though we had spoke with our friend and his family about the realities of the dangers here, and especially in their area right now, we were shocked when we learned of his kidnap and murder,” the pair wrote of their friend’s passing.

“We have cried and continue to grieve the loss of our dear friend,” Jill continued, stating that because of safety reasons, she and Israel did not attend the funeral.

The couple also spoke about the dangers of living in Central America on several episodes of “Counting On” on TLC.

“We’re adjusting to life here on the field. There are differences. We saw a cougar next door so, we’re just trying to be aware and make sure everybody stays safe. Some days are harder than others,” Jill said in March 2016 episode. “You miss family, and you want to be together with them but they’re so far away…”

The Duggars return for new episodes of “Counting On” on Sept. 11. It’s unclear if Jill and Derick will discuss their decision to leave their mission trip in the upcoming installments.
