Johnny Bananas Eliminated From ‘The Challenge: War Of The Worlds’ By Friend In Shocking Episode

We are only three episodes into the latest season of MTV’s “The Challenge” and the most-accomplished contestant in the show’s history is already gone. Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio—along with partner Morgan Willett—was eliminated from “War of the Worlds” Wednesday night.

It wasn’t simply shocking that the six-time “Challenge” champion was part of only the second team to be sent home: the way the elimination round unfolded is something no one would have predicted before the hour-long episode began.

Bananas and Morgan were sent into elimination by the Tribunal, led by the team of Wes & Dee. When given the chance to pick their opponent, Bananas called out Zach & Zahinda, despite Zach being one of Bananas’ biggest allies in the game.

Zach helped Wes get into the Tribunal by inadvertently assisting him in the day’s challenge. Zach claimed it was an accident, but Bananas clearly didn’t see it that way.

“They say that one fake friend is more dangerous than 10 enemies, and if it wasn’t for the ill-advised move of this individual, we wouldn’t be down here right now,” Bananas told host T.J. Lavin before calling out Zach.

“Unfortunately, he was cutting deals with the enemy, so that’s why we’re here. What goes around comes around.”

The elimination challenge was called “Map It Out,” and gave the two teams 15 minutes to pin 20 flags of various countries where they belong on a giant map. That map was painted onto a climbing wall, which one member of each team had to scale in order to pin the corresponding flags.

Zach & Zahida beat Bananas & Morgan, 18-15.

Despite remaining in the game, Zach didn’t seem too thrilled about eliminating Bananas.

“I just don’t feel good about this win,” Zach said before the show went off the air. “I’m excited that I’m still here, but I basically am going to lose a friend over this.”

Bananas made it to episode No.19 on “Final Reckoning” a season ago. This marks his earliest exit since “The Gauntlet III” in 2008.
