KEY POINTS

  • The DVD and blu-ray of "Joker" will be released next week
  • The digital version is already out
  • Todd Phillips believes the movie's success is because of the theme featured

The “Joker” movie DVD and Blu-ray will be released next week. The HD digital version of the film was released last month, and soon the fans will be able to own a 4K version of the flick.

The official Twitter page of the film announced that the DVD and the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray will be released next week. The post shared a significant scene from the movie, which marks the turning point for Joaquin Phoenix’s character as he turns away from his regular life and takes a dark turn.

In the scene that has been shared online, Phoenix’s character strikes out the words in the sentence “Don’t Forget To Smile” to make it read “Don’t Smile.” He then proceeds to dance his way down the stairs and kicks the door open.

Last week, the official Twitter page announced the launch of the movie in the Digital format. The post teased Phoenix’s picture with the makeup of the clown that marks the final transformation of the character in the film.

“Joker” became one of the biggest box office hits of 2019, which was unexpected. This was the first R-rated movie to gross over $1 billion. The plot is about a man who faces mental health issues and suffers because of the uncaring citizens of Gotham City.

The film has a strong connection to Batman, the popular comic book character against whom Joker fights as a villain. However, director Todd Phillips believes that there is more to the success of the movie than its connection to the Dark Knight.

Speaking at The Contenders New York event, Phillips pointed out that one of the reasons for the success of “Joker” was the themes in the film that “resonated” with the audience, Deadline reported. One of the issues they wanted to highlight in the story was the real world issue of “loss of compassion and lack of decorum in the world.”
