Joss Whedon has rejected Gal Gadot's allegation that he threatened her during the filming of "Justice League." The filmmaker said the Israeli actress misunderstood his words because her "first language is not English."

"I don't threaten people. Who does that?" the 57-year-old filmmaker told Vulture on Monday, adding that the "Wonder Woman" star misunderstood him. "English is not her first language, and I tend to be annoyingly flowery in my speech."

The filmmaker explained that he jokingly told Gadot she has to tie him on a railroad track and "do it over his dead body" in order to get a particular scene chopped from the movie.

"Then I was told that I had said something about her dead body and tying her to the railroad track," Whedon added.

The director has been receiving flak on social media since Gadot made the allegations last year.

Whedon said people have been using "every weaponizable word of the modern era to make it seem like I was an abusive monster," adding, "I think I'm one of the nicer showrunners that's ever been."

"Justice League" was released in 2017. The actress told Israeli outlet N12 in May last year that Whedon "threatened" her career and said, "If I did something, he would make my career miserable."

The 36-year-old actress again spoke about the issue in an interview with Elle magazine.

"Oh, I was shaking trees as soon as it happened," Gadot said in October last year. "And I must say that the heads of Warner Brothers, they took care of it.... Going back to the sense of righteousness that I have...you're dizzy because you can't believe this was just said to you."

"And if he says it to me, then obviously he says it to many other people. I just did what I felt like I had to do. And it was to tell people that it’s not okay," she added.

Gadot will be seen next in the highly anticipated "Death on the Nile," which will hit the theaters on Feb. 11.
