Julia Roberts has joined celebrities like Hugh Jackman, Penelope Cruz, David Oyelowo, and Shailene Woodley in surrendering her social media accounts for the “#PassTheMic” campaign. As part of the campaign, the surrendered social media accounts of celebrities will be handled by a group of experts who will give verified information about the ongoing pandemic.

According to CNN, the 52-year-old actress has decided to turn over the responsibility of her Twitter and Instagram accounts to a group of people, who will provide verified and fact-based information about the novel coronavirus. A plethora of experts, including global health, policy, and economic specialists, will be using the aforementioned platforms to reach out to the public.

Not just specialists, frontline workers like doctors and nurses will also ensure that netizens receive the factual details they need amid the global health crisis.

Roberts is surrendering her social media accounts to the renowned healthcare professional, Dr. Anthony Fauci. Fauci is one of the most significant members of the White House’s COVID-19 Task Force.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Rita Wilson, Millie Bobby Brown, and many other notable personalities are also supporting the initiative.

The campaign will also be looking to protect the most vulnerable communities and those who have been hit pretty badly by the pandemic.

The news comes just 24 hours after Drew Barrymore announced that she will be partnering with McCormick Spices to donate $1 million to the kids who have not been able to secure essentials due to the coronavirus crisis.

“There are so many problems to address in the world that I think you have to pick something that really speaks to you. I do not know how I am so lucky that I get to be a part of that partnership with them (McCormick). Kids who are not in school are the exact same thing I was doing in Africa with the UN years ago. When there are so many issues to tackle, I keep going back to kids and food,” Barrymore said.

McCormick and Barrymore will donate the amount to an organization called No Kid Hungry.

Other notable personalities like Leonardo DiCaprio, Jeff Bezos, Oprah Winfrey, and Rihanna have also donated money to various organizations that are helping people amid the pandemic.
