A woman in Australia was reportedly attacked by a large kangaroo, while she was on a golf course in Queensland.

The 69-year-old woman was stomped on by the animal, following which she was taken to a hospital in a stable condition with cuts on her face, arms and legs.

The victim, who was at Arundel Hills Country Club on the Gold Coast, was "attacked without warning" by the marsupial Friday morning, Queensland Ambulance Service’s Joel McEwan said.

The unidentified victim was walking down a fairway when the kangaroo approached her from behind and knocked her to the ground, the paramedics said, according to 7NEWS.

“She had some quite significant lacerations to her face, her arms and her legs that had been sustained after the kangaroo’s kicked her,” said McEwan, according to the outlet. “She’s fallen to the ground at the first kick, and when she’s been on the ground she’s been stomped a number of times by the kangaroo.”

The animal eventually stopped striking the woman, who remained on the ground with cuts on her body, while the kangaroo moved away, according to The Guardian.

The victim, still conscious, was placed on a golf buggy, and was soon tended to by paramedics.

The most serious wound the woman sustained was a cut to her jaw that might need stitches, with McEwan adding it was very deep.

“The patient was quite upset at the scene. Obviously it’s quite a shock being attacked by quite a large kangaroo,” McEwan added.

It is not uncommon to see kangaroos hopping along in the area, and the Queensland ambulance service has responded to such attacks on the Gold Coast in the past. However, McEwan noted this was the first attack they saw in around 12 to 18 months.

“They’re not uncommon, especially on the golf courses where they get a lot of kangaroos,” he said, according to Brisbane Times.

The unprovoked attack that took place Friday will be investigated.

“Arundel Hills Country Club is deeply saddened by this tragic event and wish for a quick recovery to those involved,” a spokesperson for the golf club said, according to the outlet. “This extremely rare and unusual incident will be investigated further by the club; however, it is important to remember that the club is also home to wildlife, and we will do our best to ensure our co-existence in the future.”
