Music and fashion mogul Kanye West is scheduling his first presidential campaign event in South Carolina, according to a campaign document obtained by news outlet Politico. The afternoon event at Exquis Event Center in North Charleston will be for registered guests only and will require participants to wear masks and social distance.

West is still trying to get on the ballot in South Carolina, after managing to get on the November ballot in Oklahoma. He must submit 10,000 signatures and file a statement of economic interest by Monday afternoon to qualify as an independent candidate in South Carolina. West has already missed the deadline in most states.

West announced his presidential bid on July 4, and created his own party, The Birthday Party.

West’s running mate is a little-known pastor from Wyoming, Michelle Tidball. West’s campaign slogan is “YES!”

The 43-year-old's late entry into the race comes as presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden has a two-digit lead in most polls against incumbent Donald Trump. Trump’s popularity has taken a hit amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the protests in June following George Floyd's death. The presidential election is considered more of a two-person race as most third-party candidates have not made serious bids.

In a recent interview with Forbes, West was quoted with numerous bizarre comments. He claimed that “Planned Parenthoods have been placed inside cities by white supremacists to do the Devil’s work” and called vaccines “the mark of the beast.”

West, whose music career began in 2004, has no public-sector experience.
