Kate Middleton might remain queen when her son, Prince George, takes over the throne.

The Duchess of Cambridge is set to become a queen consort when Prince William takes over the throne. After the Duke of Cambridge, her eldest son, 5-year-old Prince George, is the next successor.

According to Emily Hodgkin, a journalist for Express, Middleton would be a Queen Mother if she is a Queen dowager, the widow of a king. Thus, she will likely keep the title when Prince George is crowned as the new king.

However, it is unclear what Middleton's title would be if Prince William decides to step down and hand the title to his son instead of passing the title on after his death. But, in that situation, Prince William would become the King father.

This has not happened in British history. However, there have been king fathers in Belgian and Bhutanese history.

The last Queen mother in the United Kingdom was Queen Elizabeth's mom who died in 2002. A Queen mother has the same duties as the Queen consort.

Middleton will have her own official coronation alongside Prince William when the latter takes over the crown. However, her coronation will be more modest and simpler.

"Unless decided otherwise, a Queen consort is crowned with the King, in a similar but simpler ceremony," the royal family's website read.

As for her roles, it would be similar to what she does today. She will support her husband's duties by attending engagements and visiting foreign countries.

In related news, Prince William and Middleton joined Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and the rest of the members of the royal family last week to witness Princess Eugenie and Jack Broosbank's royal wedding. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's children Prince George and Princess Charlotte were among the pageboys and bridesmaids.

In a clip that is making rounds on Twitter, Middleton's reaction showed that she was a proud mom when she saw her kids accompany the bride. Middleton had a huge smile on her face and seemed to be making noise that Prince Harry turned to her and smile. On the other hand, Princess Beatrice gave the kids two thumbs up.
