California girls are unforgettable, and so are tattoos, which is something pop singer and “American Idol” judge Katy Perry certainly understands. With her quirky and whimsical collection growing each year, let’s take a look at some of her most recognizable pieces of artwork.

Katy’s oldest tattoo, which she got when she was 18-years-old, is the word “Jesus” on her left wrist. This is a nod to her religious upbringing as both of her parents are evangelical ministers.

KatyCats, as her fans are affectionately referred to, know that she has a love for adding ink to her body that is representative of a certain album or era in her career. This trend began with her strawberry to represent her studio album, “One Of The Boys”, and has followed suit with each album’s release.

The trend continued last August with the addition of a tattoo in the form of a planet surrounded by intricate architectural lines. This was the fitting end to her Witness World Tour and was inked by Dr. Woo, a celebrity tattoo artist, as reported by Steal Her Style.

The XLIX roman numeral tattoo on her finger, however, is a deviation from her emerging pattern as it followed her 2015 Super Bowl performance instead of something related to a release or tour of some sort. Her penchant for memorializing big events in her life carried forward into the inclusion of this specific moment of her career. That Super Bowl performance also introduced all of us to Left Shark, which is something we can all be grateful for.

Recently the “Roar” singer has made another surprising choice when it comes to permanent artwork. As seen on her Instagram, she got matching tattoos with fans at an event in Los Angeles on Wednesday night which was held to preview her new music. On Perry’s right hand now sits half of a heart with “miss” written inside while two other lucky fans have the other half that says “you.”

Over the years, other tattoos on Perry have been spotted by fans, such as an image of Hello Kitty on her finger and a cherry blossom on her ankle. With new music on the horizon, it can be assumed that another cute image will pop up unannounced in the coming months. Only time will tell the imaginative shapes and colors that will come as a result of this new era, but I have a feeling they will be loved unconditionally by both the fans and the singer herself.
