Recent photos of the historic Marylin Monroe dress that Kim Kardashian wore to the 2022 Met Gala show that it has been damaged, and the reality television star is being blamed for it.

An Instagram page called “marilynmonroecollection” posted the photos on Monday showing that the fabric has now been stretched along the zipper and that some of the gems are missing in the back.

“So much for keeping 'the integrity of the dress and the preservation.' @ripleysbelieveitornot, was it worth it?” the caption of the photo said.

The dress is currently owned by Ripleys Believe It Or Not, a franchise company that deals with preserving items.

The Monroe collection Instagram called the company out in its post for claiming that the condition of the dress was a top priority while Kardashian wore it.

“Great care was taken to preserve this piece of pop culture history. With input from garment conservationists, appraisers, and archivists, the garment’s condition was top priority. Believe It or Not! no alterations were to be made to the dress and Kim even changed into a replica after the red carpet,” Ripley’s said in May.

Kardashian even admitted that the dress did not originally fit her right. “When it didn’t fit me, I wanted to cry because it can’t be altered at all,” she said.

The International Council of Museums also noted in May that “historic garments should not be worn by anybody, public or private figures.”
