Someone threw a kitten from a car window onto the side of a quiet street in Brisbane, Australia, last week. The disturbing incident was caught on surveillance camera.

Authorities said the incident took place on Jan. 28, but details about it emerged only this week. In the footage, captured on a CCTV camera installed on Floral Drive in Caboolture, a black car can be seen making a U-turn before the brown kitten is thrown from the passenger window. The kitten was tossed out and it landed on the side of the road.

The vehicle appears to be a black Honda CRV or possibly a Hyundai. The video also shows a woman rushing out of her house to see what happened. She then informed the SEQ K9 Rescue, a non-profit.

"Watching the security footage you can clearly see how little regard there is for the young kitten being tossed out of the car like yesterday's garbage," SEQ K9 Rescue wrote on Facebook.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Queensland also shared the video on social media and urged the public to help identify those responsible.

"We're not entirely sure of the make but if anyone has any information we'd urge them to call 1300 ANIMAL," RSPCA Queensland spokesperson Michael Beatty said Tuesday. Beatty added that the 10-week-old kitten was examined by a vet and will receive a further veterinary assessment Wednesday. The kitten is currently with a foster carer who has named him Zuma.

Last year, in Michigan, a man was arrested for slamming his two cats into a wall. The accused, identified as 25-year-old Dylan D. Cox, threw the 3-month-old and 5-month-old kittens against the wall after the felines "got on his nerves." The man's girlfriend came home and noticed that the felines were unable to walk. They were taken to Genesee County Animal Control and it was revealed that the kittens had broken legs.
