  • Larry King's adopted son, Andy King, died suddenly last week
  • His only daughter, Chaia, passed away on Thursday
  • King is still recovering from the stroke he suffered last year

Larry King is grieving the deaths of two of his children, Andy King and Chaia, just weeks apart.

King's son, Andy, 65, died suddenly last week, a source confirmed to People. His daughter, Chaia, passed away at the age of 51 on Thursday after battling lung cancer, Page Six reported.

"Larry and his three remaining children are distraught, and Larry’s still recovering from his own health issues from last year," an insider told Page Six.

King adopted Andy in 1962 after marrying his mom, Alene Akins, the "Larry King Now" host's third wife. He and Akins welcomed Chaia in 1969.

Another source said that King continued working amid his children's passing, revealing, "He did two live shows [of Hulu’s 'Politicking with Larry King']. It’s his way of processing."

Chaia, who was King's only daughter, was very close to her father, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Last May, King suffered a serious health issue, ET learned. He experienced angina, a type of chest pain, and was admitted to the hospital to be examined before his scheduled angioplasty.

"It's been a rough year," King told People in February about his health issues. "I don’t have any idea of what 2020 is going to be like. But I can still work and I can watch my kids grow up. I feel positive — and hopeful."

King suffered a major heart attack in 1987 and had quintuple-bypass surgery. He previously opened up about his condition and the lifestyle he had before experiencing a heart attack in his 2004 book, "Taking on Heart Disease."

In the book, the journalist talked about the differences between real heart attacks and what he calls "Hollywood Heart Attacks," explaining that the former is nowhere near as dramatic as those on TV shows and movies.

"They don’t accurately portray what happens in the real world," King wrote in an extract obtained by Today. "Instead, most true-life heart attacks are a lot more low-key."

But King also shared some things Hollywood got right when it comes to them.

"But I’ll tell you this: While not as dramatic as what Hollywood produces, the low-key ones get your attention pretty damn fast when they happen to you," he continued. "And like the drama on the screen, everyone figures a heart attack — or any type of heart problem, for that matter — always happens to someone else. I never thought about it any more than that, which presumes that I even thought about it at all.”

Aside from Andy and Chaia, King is also father to Larry King Jr., whom he shares with second wife Annette Kaye. He shares sons Chance and Cannon with ex-wife Shawn King.
