A man was shot at the Las Vegas airport after allegedly attacking officers and knocking one unconscious on Thursday.

In a report by NBC News, Capt. Nichole Splinter of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said that the unnamed man began attacking officers after becoming “extremely irate” when they found him in a restricted area of the airport.

Around 3:30 am, officers were alerted to a door alarm at Terminal 3 but did not find anyone because the man was out in the tarmac, Splinter said.

When the man was found at Terminal 1, officers attempted to escort him but he started attacking three officers and knocked one unconscious.

Another officer attempted to subdue him through less violent means but was also attacked until a third officer whom the man also attempted to attack, fired two rounds at the intruder.

The injured officer and the intruder were taken to the hospital to be treated and their names were still withheld from the public.

According to the US News, the intruder’s condition is still unknown and it was not clear whether or not he was a passenger but airport spokesman Chris Jones said that the man was neither an airport employee or a worker of any concessionaires in the premises.

Police spokesman Officer Aden Ocamp Gomez said officers believe the apprehended man was the same person who trespassed Terminal 3 and triggered the alarm. No weapons were found on the person of the intruder.

OcampoGomez said that the officers were equipped wth body-worn cameras and a video footage of the altercation, along with the identity of both the injured officer and the intruder would be released to the public in the coming days.

It is still not known how the man got in the restricted area. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) spokesman Ian Gregor said that the incident is being investigated by local authorities.
