  • "The Last of Us Part 2" has officially gone gold, Naughty Dog confirms
  • The game is scheduled to be released on June 19
  • Naughty Dog exec Neil Druckmann also assured fans that there is more to the game despite the recent major leak

“The Last of Us Part 2” is complete and will be ready to hit shelves this June.

Naughty Dog vice president and game director Neil Druckmann announced the said development to fans in a video message posted on YouTube. According to Druckmann, the title – which he called the “most ambitious” game they have ever pulled off -- has officially gone gold.

The game exec also took the opportunity to congratulate the team behind “The Last of Us Part 2,” noting that it would have been a time for celebration had they not been stuck in their own homes due to the coronavirus pandemic.

To recall, the game was scheduled to be released on May 29. However, earlier in April, Sony and Naughty Dog decided to delay the launch indefinitely due to the coronavirus crisis that has shut down several businesses all over the world.

Fortunately for fans, it didn’t take long for the developer and publisher to find a new release date, announcing that the highly anticipated action-adventure game has been given a June 19 launch (with another major title pushed back).

On the other hand, while Naughty Dog and Sony suffered a massive setback when the story and major plot twist of “The Last of Us Part 2” were leaked online, Druckmann eased the worries of fans and assured them that there is more to the game.

"I know I've said this before, but you won't know to what degree until you get your hands on it and see the care that has gone into every detail: from the level design to the mechanics, graphically how the game looks, environments, art direction, characters, story, the audio design, the soundtrack - oh my God, the soundtrack is so amazing - that even for us who have played this game we can't even count how many times, we're still emotionally moved. I just finished a playthrough and I was crying by the end of it,” Druckmann said in the video, per GamesRadar.

He also noted that despite the major leak that rocked the gaming community, “nothing compares” to playing the game from beginning to end.

“The Last of Us Part 2” will be released exclusively of PlayStation 4 on June 19.
