Rapper Latto still could not get over the excitement of working with Mariah Carey for the remix of her track "Big Energy."

"I think I was in shock," Latto told ET at the Billboard Music Awards (BBMA) red carpet event Sunday. "It was so natural for her. She was literally just getting her makeup done like, 'singing.' I'm like, 'Girl, are you a human?' Like, what?"

The 23-year-old rapper, who released the remix in March continued, "But she was so cool and so humble."

The collaboration track samples Tom Tom Club's 1981 single "Genius of Love," which was also used on Carey's 1995 hit "Fantasy." The original "Big Energy" was released in September 2021 and hit No. 14 on Billboard Hot 100, which also marked the Atlanta-born artist's first top-40 hit.

Latto, whose real name is Alyssa Michelle Stephens, revealed she was a huge fan of Carey before transitioning into a collaborator. Before their meeting, she was clueless about what to say to the "Queen of Christmas," who was also dubbed Songbird Supreme by Guinness World Records.

"I literally overthink the whole process. I was like, 'What do I say? how do I act? I don't wanna do too much, I don't wanna do too little," Latto said. "But she was so cool, and she made the whole process very, very fun. You know, this stuff can be overwhelming, she made it fun."

Latto told the outlet that the legendary singer's support meant "everything" to her especially because she was a longtime fan.

"Mimi is a legend, and my mom and my aunts are superfans. Growing up, I remember seeing her posters on their wall, and physical CDs. Mimi is that girl, and I got a song with her so it's all up from here," she shared.

Carey thanked fans after the "Big Energy" remix entered Australia's music charts last month.

Latto delivered an enthusiastic performance at the BBMAs on Sunday.

A fan wrote, "Hold on, cuz mic issues aside...#Latto just ATE that!"

Another one said, "Latto is eating the crowd up and this choreo she killing her first Bbma performance and she killed that."
