Lizzie Saltzman’s alternate realities sure include a lot of “Vampire Diaries” Easter eggs. “Legacies” Season 1, episode 12 was filled with references to the original CW vampire show.

In the episode, a Jinni (not a genie, thank you very much) wanted the urn, so she grants Lizzie’s wishes to get Hope out of her life. It seems every alternate universe she wished into existence still had connections to “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals.”

Damon and Elena’s Kids — In the first alternate reality, Klaus never sends his big check to Caroline as he did in the series finale of “TVD.” That means Damon Salvatore is the school’s main benefactor, and his pockets aren’t quite as deep. There are cobwebs, tattered furniture and cereal for breakfast. When Lizzie asks where the pastries and smoothie station are, Josie explains.

“Damon Salvatore has been as generous as he can be, but he and Elena have kids of their own that they need to take care of,” Josie says.

In the second alternate universe, Damon and Elena have a daughter, and it sounds like they named her after Stefan. Damon gifted Alaric a magical watch that Josie wants to siphon. “Stefanie Salvatore’s dad gave him the watch,” Josie says before explaining that she wants to tell her boyfriend that she is a witch.

Alaric the Teacher — In the second alternate universe, the Salvatore School was never created, so Alaric still has his job at Mystic Falls High School as a history teacher. He isn’t quite as alert as he was during “The Vampire Diaries,” though. He’s an alcoholic who is trying to hide his kids’ powers.

Klaus’ War — In the third alternate universe, Klaus never died and Hope was never even born. Hope’s existence changed her dad. Without her, Klaus turned off his humanity and started an all-out war between humans and supernaturals. His photos are on Wanted posters all over. The newspaper has a headline that reads “Enemies of the State” with sketches of Klaus and Caroline on the front page (which seems like a weird choice when there are definitely photos of them available).

Kai Parker — In the final moments of the episode, Alaric was looking a book about the Gemini Coven. It looks like Rick wrote Kai Parker’s name in the margins. He is Lizzie and Josie's biological uncle. Also, he was a psychopath who killed the twins’ bio mom, Jo.

The Merge — This is what “Vampire Diaries” fans have been waiting to hear about. In the third reality, Alaric is about to go to war and tells Lizzie that she killed Josie after discovering that he and Caroline have been keeping a big secret. As twins in the Gemini coven, Lizzie and Josie will have to fight for power when they turn 22. They have to fight to the death, and they don’t have a choice. If they don’t merge, they’ll die. Alaric explains that’s the real reason Caroline is traveling. She is searching for a way to stop it.

The Merge was the big takeaway for viewers, but unfortunately, it wasn’t for Lizzie. When she reset reality back to where she started, she lost all memory of what happened in her wish worlds. The Jinni warned that people slowly lose their minds when they return to reality with no memory of their wishes. When she learns about the Merge next time, Lizzie will likely kill her sister all over again, the Jinni claims.
