While having recently become well-known for his right-wing stances, legendary actor and director Clint Eastwood has officially endorsed Democratic candidate Michael Bloomberg for President.

While Eastwood never officially endorsed Donald Trump in 2016, he has in the past been highly critical of Barack Obama as President and Hillary Clinton as a candidate. In 2012, he endorsed Republican candidate Mitt Romney.

“The best thing we could do is just get Mike Bloomberg in there,” Eastwood said during an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

In 2016, Eastwood offered praise for Trump’s eschewing of political correctness, among other things. Now, while he continues to praise certain aspects of the President’s performance, he has largely changed his stance, citing Trump's rough demeanor, childish behavior and incessant tweeting as major issues.

“I would personally like for him to not bring himself to that level,” Eastwood said.

Eastwood has been registered as a Libertarian since 2009. Prior to that, he identified as a Republican from 1952-1974, and as an Independent from 1974-1999.

Bloomberg, the billionaire co-founder of Bloomberg L.P. and former mayor of New York City, entered the race for the 2020 Democratic nomination late in the game on Nov. 24 and has so far sat out the smaller primaries and caucuses in favor of focusing on the larger ones down the line.
