Fox’s “Lethal Weapon” is wasting no time jumping right into Season 3 with all of the action and comedy that fans have come to expect from the show.

Last week’s season premiere was a transitional storyline that helped bridge the fallout from the Season 2 finale with where the series plans to go in the future. Episode 2 of Season 3, which airs Tuesday, will continue to flesh out the slightly-changed direction “Lethal Weapon” is going in.

“New partners Murtaugh [Damon Wayans] and Cole [Seann William Scott] attempt to find a steady rhythm as they work to solve the murder of a finance executive,” the synopsis reveals. “Meanwhile, Cole navigates his role with his ex, Natalie [Maggie Lawson], and his daughter, Maya [Shay Rudolph], and Avery [Kevin Rahm] grapples with the outcome of his campaign for city council.”

Per the promo video (seen at the top of this page), this episode, titled “Need to Know,” is all about the original “Lethal Weapon” characters getting to know the new guy a little bit better.

“You must be Cole,” Cahill (Jordana Brewster) says to Scott’s character.

“Let me guess, I still have that ‘new detective’ smell,” he replies.

Meanwhile, Trish tries to get the lowdown on the guy who’s now supposed to have her husband’s back by asking Roger about him. “The CIA,” he tells her. “He did secret, CIA stuff.”

“So, you know nothing,” she replies.

Later in the trailer, Murtaugh can be seen speaking to Avery about Cole, and he’s not saying anything too good. “It’s about the new guy, I’m starting to notice red flags,” he tells his old boss.

Since Riggs, who was killed off the show in the Season 3 premiere because actor Clayne Crawford was fired, was such a chaotic character, it makes sense that the new character taking his place would have some similar traits.

Showrunner Matt Miller explained to Deadline that since “Riggs was the lethal weapon in the show, when he’s gone, you need a new catalyst for the show, new energy and someone who by definition could qualify as the lethal weapon.”

See all those red flags yourself when “Lethal Weapon” Season 3 airs on Fox on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EDT.
